RITA GLASSMAN is a professional singer/songwriter, Cantor, Chaplain, and “Music for Peace” Artist. In her Cantorial role, Rita has served congregations in New York, Marin County, Iowa City, Iowa, and most recently the historical Congregation Sherith Israel in San Francisco. She has recorded six cds with original music including “Coming Into Light”, “Walk With Me”, “Journey to Shabbat”, “All The Way Home”, “A World of Peace in Song and Prayer”, and her newest cd, “River of Peace” with Rita’s own piano accompaniment.
Her original “Song For Peace” was performed at the White House for President and Michelle Obama at an interfaith holiday gathering in 2015. Rita’s interpretation of the ancient Hebrew prayer “Shema”, a song about unity and love, and accompanied by Kirtan artist Jai Uttal, can be heard on the highly acclaimed interfaith cd “Sacred World Chants” (Soundings of the Planet label). Rita’s meditative version of Carly Simon’s “Let The River Run” is on “Best of the Vineyard Sounds” (Rhino Records) with artists Judy Collins, Carly Simon, Livingston Taylor and Tom Rush.
Rita has sung the National Anthem at two Golden State Warriors’ games (Oakland Coliseum) and two San Francisco Giants’ games (AT&T Park). Rita’s mesmerizingly beautiful, soulful voice and music reach deep into the heart, taking the listener on an inspirational journey toward love, hope, healing, renewal and peace.
